We are pleased to announce Michael O’Keefe’s solo exhibition Excavations of Form / Archaeology of Feelings at Valley House Gallery in Dallas from April 9 through May 14. Join us for the Opening Reception this Saturday, April 9, 5:00pm-7:30pm.
New works developed over the past three years include a series of life-size abstract figurative sculptures constructed in sculpting epoxy and a series of monochromatic collages.
About his recent work, Michael O’Keefe says:
“For me, working at art is a way of feeling, a type of reflection. It is a way of sifting through experience that is like the work of an archaeologist; I dig into a process, discovering many beautiful moments, uncovering various impulses, and lingering in possibilities that seem interesting to me. I am looking for something evocative, something alive in the form of a figure. I engage with the figure abstractly, my imagination absorbed in the forces of form, texture, shape, line, and gestural movement. Each piece has formalist considerations, but the work is only resolved when it strongly reflects my feelings that were dug up along the way.”

Michael O’Keefe earned his MFA from SMU and currently teaches at The O’Keefe Studio Center in Richardson, Texas. This is his sixth solo exhibition at Valley House Gallery.
