Luminaria produces San Antonio’s annual contemporary arts festival. The Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival is scheduled for Saturday, November 14th from 6–11 PM in downtown San Antonio’s Hemisfair and provides FREE access to the Arts.

Luminaria invites regional, national, and international artists to submit a proposal for this competitive showcase. Apply between March 10th and April 20th to be part of this luminous after-dark celebration of contemporary arts in San Antonio, Texas.

The Civic Art Program of the City of Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) requests the submission of qualifications from artists or artist-teams to design, fabricate, and install major permanent works of public art for the Alief Neighborhood Center. Commissioned works will be accessioned into the City of Houston’s Art Collection.

The Alief Neighborhood Center combines three City of Houston departments under one roof creating a civic center at the heart of a redeveloped 38-acre active urban sports park. A new paradigm for providing City services, the 70,000 sf 3-story building is the first-of-its-kind, designed to leverage synergies between the Houston Health, Parks, and Library Departments for the benefit of residents with special focus on community engagement, identity, and overall wellbeing.

The City of Houston seeks to expand the breadth of the Civic Art Collection by requesting submissions from artists or artist teams who are not currently represented in the City’s Collection, or artists whose work in the Collection was acquired for less than $50,000.00 on a single project.

Scope of Civic Art Project:

The Civic Art Program of the City of Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) has identified three (3) separate opportunities for permanent works of public art at the site.

• 1 suspended sculpture in the “Stairitorium”. • 1 Suspended sculpture in the East entryway. • 1 exterior work of art at the Butterfly Garden.

A single artist or artist-team will be selected and commissioned for each of the three opportunities. Three artists or artist-teams will be selected in total for this project.

Commissioned artworks will be subject the following criteria:

• Artworks should be sensitive and/or responsive to the diverse history, culture, and identity of the neighborhood and surrounding community. • Artworks must be family friendly, suitable for public display, and free of safety hazards • Artworks must meet or exceed City of Houston ADA requirements • Artworks should be resistant to graffiti and vandalism and require minimal maintenance. • Artwork must have an expected life span of at least 20 years • Artwork should make a significant artistic addition to the City Art Collection.


2020 Edwards Trust Artist Residency in Painting

In 1992 Joseph Henry Edwards and Winona Edwards of San Angelo, Texas established the Edwards Family Trust that provides funding to the art area in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Angelo State University, in San Angelo, Texas. The Edward’s Trust supports scholarships for outstanding visual art students, a lectureship in the visual arts, and an artist residency.  This year marks the second year the residency will be offered. The purpose of the residency is to bring to the university accomplished painters to share their knowledge, expertise, and creative research with students, faculty, staff, and the greater San Angelo community.  In this regard, the residency is dedicated to improving the overall academic/artistic environment at ASU and specifically the programing within the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.


#NewVisions2020: A Student Show

Texas Photographic Society
 is excited to present our collegiate student competition, #NewVisions2020: A Student Show, which will be juried by Paul Thulin-Jimenez, Graduate Director and Assistant Professor in the Department of Photography and Film at Virginia Commonwealth University.

This is an online, open-themed photography exhibition. Submissions from college students of all skill levels are encouraged. Any photographic-based work is welcome including digital, silver, alternative processes, mixed media incorporating photography, collage and book arts.

Cash prizes will be awarded! A total of 50 images will be selected for the exhibition and showcased on our website gallery. As this is an online show, students will not incur expenses for printing, framing or shipping.


Navasota Artist in Residency Fall 2020

The City of Navasota and The Arts Council of Brazos Valley invite artists to apply for a six-month residency in Navasota, Texas! The Artists in Residence will have an opportunity to live, work, and exhibit in the historic Horlock Home in Navasota, Texas, which includes living and studio space for each of the three selected artists as well as a retail gallery space. The residency period is six (6) months from early-September 2020 to late-February 2021.

The City of Navasota will provide amenities including living/studio space, retail gallery space, internet, cable, and utilities free of charge to selected artists with the purpose of providing artists the opportunity to create and sell their work. Each artist will also receive a one-time $600 stipend at the beginning of the residency to assist with groceries, fuel, and supply purchases
