Color and creativity best describe Marie Renfro’s paintings in oil or water-media.
A very versatile artist, Marie enjoys using various media to express her emotional
response to a subject. An intuitive approach to painting helps her find compositions and
subjects she might otherwise never consider.
Formal Training includes a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX, with additional study in Switzerland, France, Holland, Italy, England and Russia.
Her work has been accepted in many area and international shows where it has won outstanding awards. She was the Plano Profile Artist of the Year in 2010 and recently won the Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona Award in the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies as well as an Excellence Award in the Richardson Civic Art
Society’s 48th Regional Juried Show. Her work has been published in Southwest Art Magazine and in books, “Translating the Prairie” and “Journeys to Abstraction, by Sue St. John.
Awards in competitions include The Windsor & Newton Merchandise Award Southwestern Watercolor Society 43rd Annual Members Exhibition 2006, Award, American Juried Art Salon National Show, 2006, Best of Show, Texas Visual Arts Assoc., Dallas TX, 1998, Richardson Civic Art Assoc.,1985, 1986, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, 1992, 1998, 2014, NTAAL, Denton, TX, Grumbacher Silver Medal Award for Excellence, 1991. Her painting “Not Everything is Black & White, was accepted in the 96th International Exhibition of the National Watercolor Society and she was awarded signature membership in the Society. Workshop – Creative Collage Class Supply List
Watercolor paper-300 lb. or canvas if you prefer. I would suggest you tear a half sheet of paper into 7 1⁄2” pieces and make several small ones rather than a large one. You could also use a quarter sheet if you prefer.
Acrylic or watercolor paint, I use Golden Liquid Acrylics as well as some of the HiFlo Colors. You can also bring Caran D’Arche crayons or Prismacolor pencil and India Ink or some of the colored acrylic inks.
Assorted rice papers, old prints, lace, foils, for texture and line work. Stencils or stamps are also fun to use.
Sobo Glue mixed 50-50 with water or any of the acrylic gels and/or gloss or matte mediums to glue on the collage material.
Bring an old bristle brush or a stencil brush to apply the glue.
Masonite or Gator Board support with clips
Plastic or Styrofoam plates for a palette
Water container
Sponge
Water spray bottle and alcohol spray bottle
