Sarah Murphy: I will be teaching oil painting classes in 2020. My students will be introduced to the basic tools, materials and techniques of oil painting. On day one they will begin by painting a color wheel and making a value chart as well as preparing their palette and adding medium to their paints. Day two will involve brush handling and painting simple objects with light and shadow on small canvases. Day three will involve basic landscape principles, focal point, perspective. Day Four will be a rose arrangement using the direct painting method known as alla prima. My goal is to remove the hesitations that many beginning painters have about this beautiful and versatile medium.
About the instructor: I received my BFA in Studio Art at Texas State University in 1982. Later I received a Texas State teaching certificate in All – level art from the University of North Texas. I have been a practicing artist since I graduated from college. From 1986 to 1994 I created custom designed tile murals for homes and businesses. I am familiar with a variety of art media such as watercolors, oils, acrylics, clay, printmaking, and collage. I started teaching full – time in a public school in 1999. I developed many lesson plans which were tailored to the ages and learning levels of my students. I love teaching art to children and adults. I believe that art assists young people in making meaning from their lives. I also enjoy teaching them to see and recognize the beauty around them. As of now, I am a self – employed artist and part – time teacher. I have exhibited my collagraph prints and pottery in Texas and Colorado. I currently live in Fort Worth, Tx. — Sarah Murphy
