In Emily’s classes, participants will learn the following:
* basic to advanced painting materials and techniques
* identifying colors in nature and mixing those colors on the palette
* how to find / build a compelling composition
* strategies for finding a personal voice without denying influence
* strategies for moving from observation into abstraction
All of the Sunday afternoon painting classes with Emily will be observation-based; observing a still life, observing a figure, observing a painting that the participant admires. The idea here is that working from observation is a terrific way to develop a strong foundation of all basic aspects of the art form, painting; color, value, space, texture, shape, proportion, scale, form, etc., etc. Emily LaCour is an artist that works mostly from her imagination, so she will be sympathetic to the desire to interpret, invent, imagine and investigate while working observationally. And, for those that want to keep it straight forward and “true to life”, Emily will call on her academic background to assist these individuals. Emily is a nimble, open minded and thoughtful teacher!
