Dallas, TX | Laura Rathe Fine Art announces Skywriting, a solo exhibition featuring Toronto-based painter, Janna Watson. LRFA will be hosting the opening reception on Saturday, April 1 from 4:30-7:30pm.
Painted in the countryside of northern Ontario, Skywriting showcases Watson’s newest body of works, each inspired by seductive sunsets and cloudscapes. The artist’s purposeful clusters and gestural strokes take viewers on a spiritual journey traversing through dimensions that capture soft, luxuriant neutral shades, entangled with pops of deep and electric hues. For Watson, painting abstraction is about embodying the essence of our physical world and visually articulating the invisible fields through her polychromatic compositions.
“The sky is my muse. It is no-place and all-places, and as a subject matter, it is my connective portal to nature. Unlike landscape, which references the topography of a specific place, the sky is a numinous entity that draws us toward a preeminent power.”
Skywriting is on display through May 6, 2023.

ABOUT JANNA WATSON
Watson holds an honors degree in Drawing and Painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design, and since graduating has exhibited extensively across Canada and internationally in more than 20 solo exhibitions. Her work has appeared in notable public collections including those of TD Bank, CIBC, Nordstrom, Telus, the Ritz-Carlton, ONI ONE, the Soho Metropolitan Hotel, and Saks Fifth Avenue. In 2013, she was commissioned to create an impressive, 11 x 31-foot painting for the lobby of AURA, Canada’s tallest residential building. Her work has been covered by publications such as The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, NOW Magazine, and House & Home.

With over 25 years of experience in the industry, gallery founder and owner, Laura Rathe, started her career working as a private art dealer before establishing Laura Rathe Fine Art (LRFA) in 1998 in Houston, Texas. LRFA now operates out of two locations in Houston and a third gallery in Dallas on Dragon Street, the city’s premiere design district destination. Since the gallery’s inception, LRFA has established itself as a leading contemporary art venue, offering an impressive range of exhibitions and programming to its patrons in both cities.
