From Boom to Bust : Modernism, Regionalism, & Social Realism (1920-1940) October 20 – February 4, 2023From Boom to Bust invites twenty-five American artists from three different movements into conversation about the art, literature, and film they produced between the two World Wars. Some of America’s most important artists and writers of the 20th century have a seat at the table—Charles Sheeler, John Dos Passos, Edward Hopper, Upton Sinclair, and more. Some were friends; some foes. Some avant-garde; others traditionalists. Modernists. Regionalists. Social Realists. Americans all. |
Rugged Beauty: The Flora and Fauna of the Dalquest Desert Research Station October 25 – March 18, 2023 Experience the extraordinary beauty of the Chihuahuan Desert with a new collection of images by wife and husband team, Hannah and William Meddaugh. Commissioned by MSU in 2016, this collection commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Dalquest Desert Research Station. Located near Big Bend National Park, the 3,000-acre site was donated to the University by biology Professor Emeritus Walter W. Dalquest and his wife Rose Dalquest in 1966. Highlights of the Decades From the WFMA February 4 – August 5, 2023 The Wichita Falls Museum of Art has collected more than 1,700 artworks since 1967. This exhibition showcases important pieces that were acquired from each of those six decades of collecting. From the museum’s inception, there was a vision to build a quality collection of American art. Through donations, purchases, and the current Collectors Circle program, the collection has grown into an outstanding resource for the communities of North Texas. |
Group Exhibition with Erin Cluley Gallery March 4 – August 5, 2023 In collaboration with Erin Cluley Gallery, WFMA co-curated a group exhibition featuring Texas-based artists. The Gallery, located in Dallas, represents emerging and mid-career artists working in painting, sculpture, new media, photography, sculptural installation, and public intervention. A graduate of Midwestern State University, Erin Cluley served as the Director of Exhibitions at the Dallas Contemporary from 2009 to 2014. |
Supporting Indigenous Sisters:An International Print Exchange April 8 – September 20, 2023 Activating conversations about missing and murdered Indigenous women, 16 artists of diverse heritage draw on their individual and collective experience as women, exposing this present-day dark reality as a catalyst for advocacy and change. The exhibit is co-curated by Melanie Yazzie, head of printmaking at the University of Colorado Boulder, and Catherine Prose, head of printmaking at MSU Texas. |

On the Wall Workshops January On the Wall Workshop Ginger Boller, Teaching ArtistPortraits aren’t just for people. In this watercolor workshop we will examine two beautiful house portraits from the museum’s permanent collection by the Wichita Falls artist Polly Cox. Then after a brief lesson on sketching and watercolor technique, we will make our own house portraits. Bring a photo of your house, a house that is significant to you or choose from one of the reference images that will be available in class. All supplies are provided January 7: 2-4pmJanuary 28: 2-4pm |
