Color Play – Exhibit at the Dallas Center for Photography

Please join Dallas Center for Photography (DCP) and exhibiting photographers at the DCP community gallery to view the work chosen for the Color Play juried competition and exhibition.

The exhibition features 29 images from North Texas photographers of all ages and levels showing off their use of color in bold and striking images. Additionally, Color Play is DCP’s first juried competition to feature selected entries and winning images from youth photographers. The opening reception in the DCP gallery happens on Saturday, October 29 from 6:00-8:00 pm. This reception is free and open to all! We encourage you to RSVP to let us know you will be in attendance.

For this exhibition, DCP invited photographers of all ages and skill levels to submit images that demonstrate the utilization of color to create emotion, tell a story, and add depth to their photographs. Executive Peter Poulides served as Juror for this exhibition. Like most photographers, Poulides is attracted to color, form, and especially the geometry and whimsy in everyday objects and situations. “Color in a photo has its own personality. Choosing the placement and quality of those colors gives the image character and energy. Whether it’s vibrant hues or subtle pastels, the use of color can help tell a story through photography. I was very pleased in the caliber and strength of color in the photos submitted for this exhibition,” said Poulides.

To further DCP’s mission to showcase the skill and vision of today’s youth photographers, Color Play features DCP’s first ever youth awards category. By engaging this often-overlooked group of photographers, DCP presents a lens of creative storytelling rarely explored in any professional photo gallery. Through this exhibition and other youth-centric programs, DCP encourages young photographers, photo enthusiast or any first-time image makers to grow their talents and share their passion for photography with the North Texas community.

Color Play will hang in the DCP gallery through Friday, November 11. Gallery days and hours are Tuesdays from 1pm-6pm, and Thursdays and Fridays from 10am-2pm.  The DCP Community Gallery is free and open to all!
