You are invited to join the Visual Arts Society of Texas (VAST) for a presentation by VAST’s October Guest Artist Susan Cox on the art of Wednesday, October 5th at 6:45 pm at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, 400 East Hickory Street, Denton, Texas.
Susan is a nurse by profession, and states that she is, “not your typical artist.” She became interested in gourd art in 2019 before the Covid pandemic. Creating gourd art served as a stress relieving activity during the next few years of the pandemic.
Her art journey began when she attended an Introduction to Gourd Art workshop at the Museum of the Great Plains in Lawton, OK. During the workshop she learned basic gourd painting, pyrography and pine needle weaving.
Traveling on her motorcycle, Susan visited many of our amazing national parks in the western mountain region of the United States. During one of her trips, she stayed in a teepee in Big Bend where the landscapes and night skies inspired her. Her travels and nature’s beauty have been her inspirations. The shapes of the vistas, the color of the vast landscape, and the incredible night skies are all a part of what guides her in designing and carving gourds.
The presentation is free for VAST members, and $5 for guests.
