Claire Kennedy creates collections of small objects from a variety of materials and curates them into a larger composition in space. These objects are made from clay, wood, paint, sand, beads, cardboard, paper, yarn, tape, and other materials. Claire arranges these objects into a composition that is informed by painting. Often this manifests as the wall and floor serving as substrate, along with vinyl shapes or paint marks delineating areas of the painting as a whole.

These arrangements aim to break away from taught boundaries in regards to physical space and expectations of familiar materials. Creating her own language by mediating found and fabricated objects, then placing them strategically to converse with each other and the viewer. Claire’s offhand mode of working often involves removing the rectangular substrate that is ubiquitous in traditional painting, and instead responding to the architectural components of a given space. Within these works, Using repeated motifs such as stars, dots, and sprinkles as an exploration of decoration and accumulation. While she believes her use of bright, and often hyper saccharine colors invites the viewer into the work, the transformation of materials also asks open ended questions. Like poetry, thoughts and spaces between moments are fragmented, creating opportunities for curiosity.
