CANVAS & SILK: HISTORIC FASHION FROM MADRID’S MUSEO DEL TRAJE SEPTEMBER 19, 2021–JANUARY 9, 2022 For the first time, works in the Meadows collection will be paired with representative examples of the historic dress depicted to shed new light on the relationship between representation and reality, between image and artifact. Loans include jewelry, shoes, accessories, and ensembles for men, women, and children, the combined installation of which will facilitate rich dialogues between fashion and the fine arts.
This exhibition has been organized by the Meadows Museum, SMU, Dallas, and the Museo del Traje, Centro de Investigación del Patrimonio Etnológico, Madrid, Spain, and is funded by a generous gift from The Meadows Foundation.

IMAGE & IDENTITY: MEXICAN FASHION IN THE MODERN PERIOD SEPTEMBER 19, 2021–JANUARY 9, 2022 A focused exhibition in the museum’s first-floor galleries explores Mexican fashion through photographs, prints, books, and gouaches from the 19th and 20th centuries drawn from the collections of the Meadows Museum and SMU’s DeGolyer Library.

We’re pleased to welcome to the collection this beautiful Portrait of a Lady (1621) by Bartolomé González y Serrano (1564–1627). The entire Meadows Museum Advisory Council contributed funds for its purchase, which was made in honor of Meadows Museum Director Mark A. Roglán. Drawings by Antonio González Velázquez (1723–1794), José Aparicio e Inglada (1770–1838), and Casto Plasencia y Maestro (1846–1890) were also added to the collection. Learn more
Custard Institute for Spanish Art and Culture Established

Custard, matched by an additional $3 million from The Meadows Foundation, will establish a new cultural institute within the Meadows Museum: The Custard Institute for Spanish Art and Culture. The Custard’s gift will name the director of the new institute in honor of Meadows Museum Director Mark A. Roglán, who celebrates his twentieth anniversary at the museum this year. Learn more
