Andy Evansen video demo for Southwestern Watercolor Society

May Membership Meeting will Feature Special Demo by Andy Evansen, AWS

Andy Evansen, AWS

Andy Evansen will be SWS presenter in May. Traditionally, the May 11th membership meeting was a live auction and raffle but this year we have a very special presentation. Reprising a hit program he gave to the Richardson Civic Art Society earlier this year, Evansen will do a live narration of a video he has pre-recorded.

On the tape he demonstrates how he streamlines and plans his watercolor paintings by developing a value sketch that has a large, connecting mid-value shapes. This allows him to simplify the scene by concentrating on shapes, not objects, while using his value sketch as his guide. Then, after he lays in the mid-tones in the painting, he adds the darks to his value sketch, and completes the painting.

The best part of this program is that, with a prerecorded video, Andy can actively narrate and easily emphasize an idea or to answer questions during the demonstration. He will frequently pause or rewind to specific parts of the video to illustrate a point he is making. Using this strategy, he makes his loose approach to a doing a watercolor landscape easy to understand.

A master watercolorist and acclaimed teacher, this will be a program that is not to be missed. To find out more about him and his workshops, go to https://www.evansenartstudio.com. For more about Southwestern Watercolor Society see https://swswatercolor.org
