| The Beatrice M. Haggerty is proud to present Cultures of Consumption: The Art of Leon Richmond and Kazuma Sambe, on view February 5 – March 2, 2021. Humor and an absurdist mash-up of advertising, food, celebrity, mythological creatures, and cheap consumable “goods” are employed to explore the way we consume or become consumed by cultures of advertising and desire. About the artists Leon Richmond was born in Defiance, Ohio in 1961 and came to making art after many years working at his father’s Burger Chef restaurant and Albertsons. Both these jobs had a profound influence on his artistic practice which he came to later in life. After a decade working in accounting in Oklahoma. By way of his friendship with Bob Dohrmann, Professor of Studio Arts at The University of Oklahoma, Richmond was encouraged to, “Start creating stuff, why not?” Kazuma Sambe was born in New York in 1984 as a child of a Japanese family. He moved to Japan with his parents when he was four in age and educated there. He then moved to Tucson for studying biochemistry. Encountered contemporary ceramics for the first time in his life, but that was the moment he changed his life to the art realm. He obtained BFA in 2011 from the University of Arizona and an MFA from Arizona State University in 2014. He currently resides in Tucson for his production of ceramics. |

| Our Gallery Director, Christina Hayes Haley, has recently resigned to focus on her painting practice and raising her daughter. In her four years at the University of Dallas, Christina has curated over 20 exhibitions and published two exhibition catalogs. She has been honored to work with an incredible roster of artists and curators who have brought the gallery to life in a myriad of ways. Christina wishes to thank her student workers in the gallery for all the enthusiasm, hard work, and dedication they brought to installing each and every exhibition. |

| Visiting Safety Policies and Procedures The gallery is currently open for visitors; please check the gallery website for the most up-to-date visitor information. When visiting the campus you must first check-in at the Information Desk in J.M. Haggar, Sr. University Center/Visitor Center (building 4). We will ask you for your name and contact information, your temperature will be taken, and you will be asked to sign a certification that you are not sick with COVID-19. All guests will be informed of the campus health and hygiene policies for their visit and high-touch surfaces will be sanitized after each visit. We are operating with limited opening hours to ensure the exhibitions are staffed and safe for visitors. Your safety, and that of our students, is our highest priority and our student workers are admitting no more than six people to the gallery at one time. See below for our visitor safety policies.  |

Haggerty Gallery is located in the Art History Building at the corner of Gorman Drive and Novinski Circle (2910 Haggar Drive/ Novinski Circle) on the University of Dallas campus at 1845 E. Northgate Drive in Irving. Parking can be found on Gorman Drive on your right if entering from John W. Carpenter FWY and Dominican Lane and Gorman Drive. There is also parking on Novinski Circle.
