The Western National opens Aug 4, and runs until Aug 29, with a closing reception 6-8pm Saturday Aug 29, at the Dallas Metro Arts Contemporary, 1412 14th St, in Plano TX. It will feature 60 artworks in a full variety of 2D media, from 53 artists living in 18 states. The theme of the show was Western art, or art that captured the essence of the west, whether it was landscape, still-life, people or wildlife–including as stated in the prospectus: “That dang, mod, durn art!”.
The juror is Ann Zembala, Director of the Pearce Collections Museum, in Corsicana TX. At the reception awards will be announced, including the $1000 Juror’s Award, plus additional awards of the Director’s Choice and People’s Choice.
The goal of the Dallas Metro Arts Contemporary is to provide portfolio enhancement, education, consultation and counseling. Along with a gallery collection of notable artist prints, the 1600 foot exhibition space is utilized for monthly juried exhibitions, based on media or themes. After the Western National, and currently available for online entry is the Drawing National Juried Exhibition.
