THE CATHOLIC FOUNDATION CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS FROM TEXAS PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS FOR
15th ANNUAL ART ON THE PLAZA COMPETITION
Winning artwork displayed for one year in downtown Dallas Arts District
Saint Peter’s Fish by Kimberley Peterson, 2019 winner
DALLAS – Professional artists across Texas are invited to enter The Catholic Foundation’s 15th annual Art on the Plaza competition by Friday, September 18 at 3 p.m. for an exceptional exhibition opportunity for the winning artist.
The Catholic Foundation hosts this unique competition to identify a piece of original artwork to adorn a 28-foot-long by 9-foot-wide public art wall in the Dallas Arts District for one year. Works must be respectful in nature as the winning entry will be showcased on the Plaza of the Cathedral Santuario de la Virgen de Guadalupe, but do not require a religious theme.
“We are honored to present the Art on the Plaza competition for our 15th year, connecting talented artists and the surrounding community,” said Matt Kramer, president and CEO of The Catholic Foundation. “There is still a need for beauty to be shared through public art, especially to uplift us during difficult times.”
There are no entry fees, and the winning artist receives a $2,500 stipend. Honorable mentions are also recognized with a $250 award. Submissions must measure 28 inches by 9 and 2/3 inches, and the winning work will be digitally reproduced to mural-size dimensions and installed on the art wall. Photography or computer-generated art are not eligible. Submission guidelines are available at https://www.catholicfoundation.com/Support-Tools/Catholic-Foundation-Art-Competition. Deadline for submissions is September 18.
A panel of highly respected members of the local arts community will determine the winning piece, which will be installed and unveiled on the Plaza art wall in fall of 2020.
“It’s a gift that The Catholic Foundation has this available,” said Kimberley Peterson, 2019 Art on the Plaza competition winner. “It’s a great opportunity – take a shot!”
