O’Keefe Studio classes suspended! Would you benefit from an online critique?

The O’Keefe Studio Center will be shutting down for the next two weeks…On March 30th, we will reassess the situation and see if we have succeeded in “flattening the curve” in the spread of the coronavirus in our community. There is so much uncertainty regarding this situation and I want to put the well being of our community, especially the health of those who are over the age of 60, first and foremost in this uncertain time. So, no classes or workshops until further notice.

HOWEVER…
Let’s discuss art and stay engaged.
Consider online critiques and conversations with me (Michael O’Keefe) during this time of hunkering down.

As many of you know, I love to critique and analyze works of art. I love to look at the art work of an individual, try and get myself thinking in line with their desires and interests, and identify the strengths of that work of art and consider the alternate possibilities or changes that could be made to that work of art. I love to help people see aspects of their work that they have not considered. I love to help people see the historical context for their art, as well as the contemporary precedents for what they are doing. I love to employ my imagination and understanding of the language of art to lead people deeper into their artistic inquiries.

During this time of “hunkering down”, I am offering online critiques. You send me a work of art in the form of a digital image file and I will reply with considered, provocative and insightful reflections on your work of art, as well as copies of your work that I mark up with my new fancy iPad. I will discuss the aspects of your work that I think are most successful. I will offer alternatives to aspects of the work that I think work less well. I will discuss my interpretations and general response to your work. I will offer some references that I think relate to your work of art. And I will ask some questions that will hopefully lead to meaningful reflection and invigorated work in the studio. I will even suggest relevant assignments, if you want.

Here is how it works:
REGULAR OPTION: You send me an email with an image of a work of your art, along with any important information about what your goals or desires are with that work of art. I will respond within 24hrs with written notes and images with my digital mark ups (these “mark ups” will be images of your work with my drawings and analysis drawn right on top of the image of the art so as to help you understand my critique) Each critique/conversation regarding a work of art will cost $55 (I will spend no less than 45 minutes with each work of art)

TRILOGY OPTION: You send me an email with 3 images of 3 different works of your art, along with any important information about what your goals or desires are with those works of art. I will respond (starting within 24hrs) with an email each day for the next 3 days, including written notes and images with my digital mark ups. This extended conversation will allow me and you to go deeper into the nature of your work and will give you a chance to reply to each email and have me consider your reply in the following email. A three day extended online critique will cost $160

QUICKY OPTION: You send me an email with an image of a work of your art. I will respond within 24hrs with a concentrated response with my first impressions, my sense of what is great and what is less great, and my most urgent concerns for the work of art. Each quickie critique/conversation regarding a work of art will cost $18 (I will spend no less than 15 minutes with each work of art – Don’t worry, I can give you a lot to think about in 15minutes!)

ART HISTORY OPTION: You send me an email with 3 images of 3 different historical works of art that intrigue you, along with any important information about what interests you about each work of art. I will respond (starting within 24hrs) with an email each day for the next 3 days, including written notes and images with my digital mark ups. This process will allow me to create a context for each work of art and express various ways in which that work of art is relevant to you (us) as contemporary artists. I will also strive to unlock the essential underpinnings of that work of art. A three day online art history option will cost $160

Payments can be made through Venmo, Zelle or with a credit card (CC info given over the phone)
These online critiques and conversations will be available at these prices until regular classes resume. My normal price for a one hour critique/consultation in person is $90. I have adjusted my rates for the above opportunities because of the online nature of these exchanges, but more because we all have been affected by the devastating affect of the coronavirus on our economy. Many of us are having to get creative about how to continue to pay the bills during this most unusual and unexpected time.
