New Irving Archives & Museum Exhibition Highlights Indian Contributions to America; India a la Art: A Culture Collective
On Feb. 16, a new traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian opens at the Irving Archives and Museum (IAM), 801 W. Irving Blvd., that explores the Indian American experience and the community’s political, professional and cultural contributions to American life and history. “Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation” will run through April 11.
From the builders of some of America’s earliest railroads and farms to Civil Rights pioneers to digital technology entrepreneurs, Indian Americans have long been an inextricable part of American life. Today, one out of every 100 Americans traces his or her roots to India. “Beyond Bollywood” spotlights breakthroughs in business, the arts, medicine, science and technology, and the flavorful food, flamboyant fashion and yoga of India that have become a central part of American culture.
