Workshop Description:
Let’s face it, as artists, sometimes we just “plein” can’t paint! Falling back on photo references is sometimes a necessity when weather, location, or physical limitations get in the way of your idyllic plein air dreams.
So how do we create evocative, glorious paintings when our photographs lack luster, depth, or emotion? In this two day workshop, students will learn to take their “boring” photos and create new compositions that pop with light, color, and feeling. We will be layering, cropping, and combining your references to create new source imagery. Pastel techniques will be focused on experimental underpainting play, embroidering our paintings with color, and methods to bring light into your landscapes.
Bethany will be demonstrating daily along with plenty of personal attention at your easel and ample time to paint. UART Premium Sanded Pastel Paper will be supplied to all students.
