Demo Artist: Watercolorist Jim Gensheer of Mansfield, TX

Jim Gensheer is an award winning, international watercolor artist based out of Dallas/Fort Worth where he lives with his wife, children, and grandchildren nearby.

Artist Statement: When people ask, “So what do you do?” I say “I paint.” It really is that simple. I paint. My medium of choice is watercolor because of it’s immediacy. I paint because it is my passion, my love. I also teach watercolor. Being able to share that passion by teaching is such a blessing.

I consider myself somewhat of an abstract-realist. Realist in that you can identify with my subject matter, but abstract in that I let you into my paintings with your own interpretations, your own feelings about what you’re seeing. The viewer ‘fills in the blanks’ becoming part of the memory of it. Painting for me is a way to pause time, re-live a moment. Time no longer exists, and if the viewer will pause and think, “I’ve been there, I’ve felt that…” then I have done what I think an artist should do.
I was a banker for some twenty years and now I can say I’m an artist going on twenty+ years, and I prefer painting to banking!

As always, JCAG meeting are free and open to the public – Hope to see you there.
