RCAS’ Rosemary Cheney Show honors young artists in Richardson

Rosemary Cheney Show Dec. 2 thru Jan. 6

The Rosemary Cheney Memorial Show is an art exhibit open to all elementary school students in the Richardson Independent School District. There are usually around 300 students who participate in this exhibit.  RCAS sponsors this event at the Richardson Public Library and provides each child with a participation ribbon and certificate.  The school district sponsors a reception for the students and their parents where they present the students with their ribbons and certificates. Location: Richardson Library, 900 Civic Center Dr, Richardson, TX 75080.

Rosemary Cheney was a teacher for the Richardson Independent School District for 24 years, teaching first and second grades. She loved her students and encouraged each one to do their best. She took an interest in student artwork as well as their regular school work. She was a prize-winning artist in many of the shows sponsored by the Richardson Civic Art Society. She specialized in Water Media and Collage.  She often gave one of her works of art to the teachers of her grandchildren.

Rosemary and her husband, John Cheney, were long-time members of RCAS and contributed greatly to the success of the organization.  John, who is still an RCAS member, was instrumental in organizing the student art show and it was named in loving memory of his wife, Rosemary.
