I’m sure you were as shocked as I was upon seeing Notre Dame burning recently. We had visited Paris in 1997 on our 1st year anniversary. Tyler was quite intrigued with all of the gargoyles and spent (what seemed like hours) videotaping each detail of each gargoyle…and there were LOTS! (Did you know that the gargoyles were believed to ward off evil spirits, but are also water spouts that carry the rain away from the building?) As Tyler filmed, I just sat by the Seine and sketched. After a while, we got hungry and walked over to a nearby cafe for lunch. Unbelievably, we both forgot to go inside the cathedral and didn’t even realize it until we got back home. I kicked myself for years for that!
Last July, we had an opportunity to revisit the Gothic structure, and this time went inside. I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity.
