Marie Maines will give a demo on how to critique ones’ own art work

How to critique your own work for growth:

Every time you open an art book, there seems to be a list of elements and principles of art to be used to help take your work to that magic ‘next level’. I’ve always had a vague understanding of them, but was never sure how to use them. Dawn Emerson’s art book, Pastel Innovations, has grouped them and explained them in such a way that they are now an invaluable part of every new composition I begin. I use them both at the beginning, during and at the end of each new piece. Maybe my work has not reached that ‘next level’ yet’, but I feel a bit more sure of my direction in trying to get there. In the demo on Sunday, May 5, I hope to help you begin your own deeper understanding of these elements and principles and how to use them to begin and to evaluate your own work.

Please bring along a pencil (rather than a pen) and a hard surface to write on (a regular sized clipboard would be ideal). A piece of your own art to practice the skills being discussed would also be helpful. This can be the piece you are bringing for Painting of the Month, a work-inprogress, or a completed piece that you consider either successful or unsuccessful. Hope to see you Sunday, May 5, at 3:00.
