Art Students to Receive 2019 DADA Scholarship Awards & Exhibition

The 2019 DADA Scholarship Awards & Exhibition, Opening Reception and Ceremony May 9


The Dallas Art Dealers Association (DADA) will honor 10 Booker T. Washington High School visual art students on May 9 from 6-8 p.m. Join DADA to celebrate talented young artists at the Awards & Exhibition – Opening Ceremony at One Arts in the Dallas Arts District. The Exhibition will be on view May 5-24. Free and open to the public. With additional gifts and prominent exposure, the Edith Baker Art Scholarship is expanding its artistic influence. DADA created the scholarship in 2005 to give young artists access to mentors and funding to help them pursue higher education in art.The Edith Baker Art Scholarship is a $5,000 award. Further enhancing the program is an additional award funded by gallery owners Kenneth Craighead and Steve Green. The Craighead Green Fund for the Arts awards a $2,500 scholarship to inspire a young artist a career in art.  This year the DADA Excellence in Art award  for $1,000 has been made possible by members Mary Tomas and Mary Beaudry both owners of art galleries in the design district.  Another award for $500 will be awarded by the Texas Visual Arts Association. “With the help of DADA Friends and other sponsors, we continue to enhance the scope of the awards both in gifts and outreach,” stated Cathy Drennan, Executive Director of DADA. This year’s guest juror is Nancy Cohen Israel, owner of Art à la Carte, art historian, writer and curator. Over the past 25 years, she has taught at colleges and museums throughout the Dallas area, including at the Meadows Museum where she is a regular lecturer. Nancy advanced Art à la Carte’s art educational mission through her highly popular tour series, Second Saturdays. She continues to organize and lead custom art tours to local venues as well as to dynamic contemporary art destinations throughout Texas. Nancy is also a regular contributor to Patron magazine. Her work has been published locally in FD Luxe and Arts + Culture  and nationally in artltd. and Lilith.
