CREATIVE ARTS CENTER hosts Mural Competition for Dallas Police Substation

Selected Artist Receives a $1,000 CAC Certificate and a $500 Materials Stipend

DALLAS – January 30, 2019 – Creative Arts Center of Dallas (CAC) invites artists to submit proposals for an 8′ by 12′ site-specific indoor mural for the Northeast Dallas Police Department substation. A public art partnership between the Dallas Police Department and the Creative Arts Center, the juried competition will offer a $1,000 gift certificate for classes at CAC and a $500 materials stipend. Artists or a group of artists are invited to submit up to three total color renderings interpreting the theme, “Community+Creativity+Collaboration” in which artists are asked to feel inspired to create a vibrant design encompassing East Dallas icons, including White Rock Lake, Dallas Arboretum, Casa Linda Shopping Center, etc. The deadline for submission is March 15, 2019.

According to Diana Pollak, Executive Director of the Creative Arts Center of Dallas, the mural competition is an exciting opportunity for artists throughout North Texas to have their work seen in a prominent location as this substation is Dallas’ largest and busiest. “We worked with the Dallas Police Department, WFAA-TV and the public to produce a live mural painting commemorating our five fallen officers on the one-year anniversary of 7.7”, said Pollak. “We are proud to support the Dallas Police Department to showcase area artistic talent and create a more inviting workplace for the officers in the Northeast substation.”   The competition is open to all artists and there is no application fee. Artists must submit a short bio and up to three color renderings to [email protected] in the form of 72 dpi digital images in JPEG format. All proposals submitted must be original works of art and include a written statement of the artwork. Artists will be notified by March 29, 2019 and the mural must be completed by May 15, 2019.
