This is open to members and non-members of TVAA (Texas Visual Artists Association) with ribbons being awarded to Best of Show, 1st, 2nd 3rd place, and honorable mention. Show Description: Love and Hurt: An exhibition of the joy – and pain – of falling in love
Every heart on earth has experienced love at least once in their lifetime. And, each one knows the journey to find love often comes with a hurt that cuts deeper than any physical wound. The creations shared at Love and Hurt seek to capture the emotions that accompany our journey to blissful fulfillment – by way of the pain that has the power to tear the heart to shreds.
ABOUT THE CURATOR: A classically-trained artist with a degree in fine arts, Juju crosses her figurative artist style with a contemporary illustrative flavor. Her abstract line of paintings features high-contrast textures to shape the mood of each piece and a unique collection of shapes to create their form. By combining different types of paint and media, Juju portrays the many different levels of our existence through color and texture. She has a special talent for capturing human images and finds herself constantly observing how shadows define the facial features of those around her.
Juju’s goal for the observer of her art is to draw them into the painting, either through the eyes or the energy that the artwork creates. She aspires to capture that moment in time that takes you to the place where you can escape for those few moments in time, for it is those moments that create lasting memories.
Her newest channel of creativity is a contemporary illustrative style that uses high intensity colors to generate brilliance, energy and contrast. And, Juju has recently branched out to specialize in commissioned idealized portraits.
Artist Statement:
As an artist, I believe in practicing the sound principles of painting that I have learned both classically and experimentally. I also believe that an artist should strive for something more than just the technical accuracy in their work, but emotional bond of creative energies. There is a feeling, or reaction, that one gets when standing in front of a piece of art. Sometimes, it`s not an easy thing to describe, but one knows it when it happens. It might be the sense of place in the universe, the light on the subject, or a fleeting expression in a portrait. These are the types of reactions one hopes are communicated by art. The best scenario is when the technical and emotional unite as one.
REQUIREMENTS:
No larger than 48” on the longest side. 2D work must not be taller than 36” and weigh less than 30 pounds.
All artwork must be wired correctly with D-rings. No ½” canvases will be curated without a frame. Gallery wrapped work must have clean edges and no staples showing. Work that does not follow gallery requirements will not be hung. If invited to the exhibition you must sign up for one sitting day during the month or pay a $35.00 sitting fee for someone to cover your day. Any work not picked up on take down day with be stored for a $5.00 a day fee and then considered abandoned after 30 days. Any artwork sold pays a 25% fee to the TVAA.
Fees must be paid at the time of submission via the online form. $30.00 for up to 3 images for Members and $45.00 for up to 3 images for Non-Members. Please submit up to three entries (jpgs at 72 dpi and no longer than 1800 pixels on longest side). You must include your name, e-mail address, title the piece, size, medium of the work, and the selling price.
LIABILITY:
Entering this exhibition constitutes an agreement to release the Texas Visual Arts Association, the TVAA Gallery and the Plaza of the Americas from any liability for loss or damage to works of art in this exhibition. TVAA, the Gallery, or the Plaza of the Americas reserves the right to remove any work that is deemed objectionable for any reason.
PARKING:
For delivery and pick up, you can park in the garage for $1.50 for each twenty (20) minute interval (vouchers are provided for delivery or pick-up). Metered parking is available on Pearl and Crockett Streets. Parking in lots on Crockett and San Jacinto is $6.00. DO NOT park in the permit-only zones behind the building on Crockett Street. Full-day Gallery sitters may park free in the garage (entrance on San Jacinto – between Pearl and Crockett).
