About the Exhibition

Brandon Jacob Hudson presents an exhibition of ceramic artworks displayed on their own, as photographs, and in combination with each other, creating a new experience of their dimensionality and presence. The exhibition consists of multiple outcomes between the 3D and the 2D, viewed on the walls and on pedestals. By having this variety of framed ceramic slabs, prints of ceramic surfaces and abstract objects intertwined with photographic prints of themselves, he compares their distinctions and gives the viewer an opportunity to consider this duality of physical objects versus objects through reproduction. He shows an appreciation in both approaches and also explores how the difference in how we experience them engages our sense of vision in a profound way.

Another duality that he emphasizes in this exhibit is the method of building: the mechanical versus the organic. This is seen when comparing the ceramic objects against the photographic prints, and in added textural elements found in the clay slabs, either through traces of handprints or in mechanical patterns. He combines these approaches together to reflect his current sense of the human condition and pushes his artworks to dwell on it.

About the Artist

Growing up in rural northeast Texas, Brandon Hudson first knew art only as the graffiti on the trains that passed by his backyard. Now working as an artist for almost two decades, he creates his artworks through lens-based mediums and tends to branch into mixed media like paint, ink and ceramics. Intrigued by undefined imagery, he extends works into various series that revolve around time, memory, process and technology.

Hudson earned his BFA from Texas Christian University and his MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design. After residing in New York City and Los Angeles for 12 years, he now oversees the studios at East Texas A&M University as the Art Facilities Coordinator and teaches courses in Drawing, Photography, and Video.
